As you can see, we don't do blog posts very often. A friend recently told me that he thought we had closed since there wasn't much activity on the site or our social feeds. So instead of being our usual so-secret-people-think-we're-dead, we're going to make a concentrated effort to post here more often.
Our last update was over a year ago so let's just say things have changed, and mostly for the better. Lets bring you up to speed.
GDC Europe / Gamescom
We attended GDC Europe and Gamescom in August 2014. It was our first trip abroad as a company and we hoped wouldn't be the last. So we did everything to stack the odds in our favour. Meetings were organised with publishers and platform holders 3 months in advance and re-confirmed again 4 weeks prior the event. This strategy worked out for us as we had 6 meetings confirmed before we had even left the country.
Overall it was a great trip and we achieved quite a lot. While not everything we wanted to happen happened, it gave us a huge confidence boost and we walked away from one meeting as an Xbox One Developer.
In December our friend, Geoff Newman, came to visit us to film part of his documentary, #IrishGameDev 2014. He wanted me to dance to Taylor Swift. I wouldn't. So I answered some questions instead. I thought my interview went terrible (I genuniely did), but it turns out Geoff is handy at not making me look like a complete idiot. I am still an idiot though. Anyway heres the documentary. Watch the full thing (I'm at the 28 minute mark btw.) and give him a like and a subscribe and all that other YouTubey stuff.
Competitive Start Fund
"The purpose of the Competitive Start Fund is to accelerate the growth of start-up companies that have the capability to succeed in global markets."
We were successful in our application for the competitive start fund. If you watched my interview in the above documentary, you can see me talk about hoping to get CSF in 2015. So we did!
It's by no means easy. In fact it's quite a difficult, drawn-out process that is highly competitive and very time consuming. How time consuming? Well, we started preparing our application in December and only just last month received the first part of our funding. I can easily say that we spent over three months solid on preparation, completing forms and getting our pitch absolutely perfect. Which meant we didn't have much time for development, but in return we secured funding that should see us through to next year.
What are we working on?
I can't say. We're really not ready to show it yet. But what I can say is, we've been working on the technology and design since last October and it's really starting to take shape. It's definitely our most ambitious project we've ever undertaken.
Expect a teaser soon.
